On the move and taking the air

Whether on your skis, in your walking boots, on your mountain bike, in a badminton hall or on a tennis court, indoor and outdoor sport is found in every corner of Leukerbad! Le Bristol**** hotel offers regular yoga retreats which include room, healthy catering and Wellness.

Many sports shops are open all year round, ready to kit out visitors to the area.

Leukerbad

Leukerbad is a paradise for winter sports (50 km of skiing on the Torrent, 18 km of cross-country skiing on the Gemmi, and a 2 km toboggan run) and summer hikes (60 km of trails along the shores of mountain lakes or paths to Adelboden and Kandersteg). 20 signposted mountain biking trails also await you in Leukerbad. For the most sporty, you can go up and down on your mountain bike. For others, the cable car will drop you and your mountain bike off at the summit. E-bikes and mountain bikes are available for both adults and children to hire.

The resort offers many other activities as well, such as kite-surfing, squash, curling, ice-skating and even golf (in the valley, a few kilometres away), guaranteeing you a stay where relaxation goes hand in hand with vitality, whether summer or winter.

From the Gemmi Pass (with an altitude of 2,314 metres), you can reach Lake Daubensee, which delights all of its visitors, particularly in summer. Want to visit a classic old village like Albinen? The footbridge over the Dala Gorge and its superb walk (one among many) are waiting for you!

Setting

Located at the heart of Valais at an altitude of 1,411 metres between the Daubenhorn, Balmhorn and Torrenthorn mountains, Leukerbad is the favourite destination of those who love the tranquillity of Switzerland, its pure air and its breathtaking panoramic views. This natural site is among the most popular in Switzerland.

Lake Daubensee

daubensee gemmi

Located at 2,200 meters above sea level on the historic Gemmi Pass, this Alpine lake turns into Leukerbad's cross-country skiing center in winter. In summer it is the ideal place to cool off and to have a go at kite-surfing. Every year in July it is where you'll find the "Shepherds" Festival with its folklorist events.

Gemmi Pass

The 10 kilometer-long Gemmi Pass links Leukerbad with Kandersteg in the Canton of Berne. This famous, precipitous route is steeped in history and has been in use since at least the Roman Era. Today the pass is still very popular with hikers and offers snowshoe trails, cross-country skiing and a great toboggan run in winter.

The Torrenthorn

The Torrenthorn is a mountain area particularly well suited for sporting activities. It is on its sunny slopes that skiers and snowboarders practice their favorite sport during the winter season; and in summer it's mountain biking, hiking and Nordic Walking. But nothing beats a hike to the top,
at 3,000 meters, to witness the sunrise over the Alps.

The Via Ferrata

Klettersteig Leukerbad

From june to october

Leukerbad has the longest via ferrata in Switzerland (a trail somewhere between climbing, hiking and mountaineering, practised along vertical rock faces). Its level of difficulty is classed ED (Extremely Difficult). The via ferrata runs across the cliffs of the Daubenhorn above Leukerbad.

The path of springs

The path crosses the resort heading in the direction of the Dala Gorges. En route, hikers can find nine information panels explaining the various categories of springs in Leukerbad, and the geology, history, medical and scientific aspects of the thermal waters.

The Dala Gorge footbridge

Thermalquellen Steg

From mai to october

The thermal spring path that runs through the Dala Gorge is less than one kilometer from the village square. Open from May to October, the footbridge extends into the gorge, right in the riverbed where the thermal springs emerge.
